Police arrest brother of el-Rufai spokesman Engr. Haruna Daniel Aruwan, leadership reporter Midat Joseph and Sonny Ayock

KADUNA – The police yesterday  re-arrested and whisked away the Engr. Haruna Daniel Aruwan, the brother of Samuel Aruwan, the spokesman of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state, after initially arrested him and putting chains on his legs before taking him to the Metro Police Station two weeks ago, Kaduna. The Building Enginner Graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, was arrested at the Metro Police Station, Panteka, Kaduna.

Also in connection with the arrest of Engr. Aruwan, the police waylaid Chairman, Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Midat Joseph, who is also a close friend of Engr. Aruwan. Midat was arrested hours after Engr. Aruwan was arrested and was still being detained at the time of sending this report.

One other Mr. Sonny Yayock, who had gone to the police station with friends, Journalists and family members of the Engineer, was arrested outside the police station and forced into the bus that was conveying Engr. Aruwan to Abuja, as one of the police officer told sympathizers.

It is still unknown the reasons for the  arrests, as the fiery looking, armed plainsmen refused to tell either the lawyer of Aruwan, Barrister James Kanyip what he was being arrested for.

It has however been gathered that Midat and Engr. Aruwan have become very close friends. The once cordial relationship between Midat and Samuel Aruwan, who was a reporter with Blue Print newspaper, has deteriorated remarkably since the Spokesman of the governor got his new job.

The el-Rufai government seemed to be clamping down on the press, as it has arrested and charged three reporters seen as critical to his government to court.

On the other hand, Sonny Ayock, is critical of the government of Nasir el-Rufai especially on his face book.

Said Barrister James Kanyip: “I brought Engr. Aruwan to the Metro Police station, after he sought the service of my chambers. He said he had been physically manhandled before being whisked away sometimes  this month to the Metro Police Station. He told me that he was subjected to all kinds of interrogations for hours, but nothing was  pointed out as his offence. He reported twice to face same the interrogation.

Engr. Haruna Daniel Aruwan who is a brother to Samuel Aruwan was released yesterday while Midat Joseph and Sonny Ayock have been taking to the Police Headquarters this morning for more interrogation.

All the three arrested persons are from Southern Kaduna.
