Revelations have emerged in Kaduna State on how Governor Nasir el-Rufai goofed over the siting of an army barrack near Kafanchan.
The army formation, when completed, will housed military personnel that will be saddled with the task of curbing the persistent attacks in the area and environs.
The duo of el-Rufai and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, had announced the commencement of work at the proposed site of the army barrack in Kafanchan, Jema’a LGA of Kaduna state.
Elanza News gathered that the land on which the foundation laying ceremony took place is actually located in Attachap, Ungwan Rimi District, Bajju Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf LGA and not in Kafanchan, Jema’a LGA of Kaduna state.
It was gathered that officials of the state government, the Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Hon Bege Humble Katuka and the Emir of Jama’a, Muhammadu Isa Muhammadu, attended the ceremony, but the Chairman of Zangon Kataf LGA, Hon. Aliyu Anthony Wakili and the paramount ruler of the area in which the land is situated, the Agwam Bajju 1, Malam Nuhu Bature were not invited at the occasion.
Sources say the security apparatus in Zangon Kataf LGA were also not inform about the programme.
The State Government, through it spokesman, Samuel Aruwan had said in a statement that ‘crisis entrepreneurs’ destroyed the foundation of the army formation.
Both the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), the Bajju Development Association (BADA) and some other individuals in the area on Saturday, condemned the destruction of the foundation laying structure.
Elanza’s investigation further revealed that the area on which the foundation laying structure of the army formation is located, has had a military barrack in the past but was relocated following a crisis between senior and junior military officers.
“What happened during the foundation laying ceremony of the army formation in Southern Kaduna has confirmed some insinuations that the Governor does not know Kaduna very well and can be easily be misled.”
“How can such an error be committed in such a high magnitude event that the people of the area have been clamoring for? How will people from different LGA grace a programme in another territory that is not under their control? I am not against the fact that everyone should have been invited for the programme but the local authority in which the land is sited should have been invited.”
“The chairman of Zangon Kataf LGA was not there, neither the traditional ruler of the area; the Agwam Bajju. This goes to show that there was no discussion with the owners of the land,” a source familiar with the history of the area said.
el-Rufai was quoted as saying he will punish some people he described as ‘crisis entrepreneurs’ for destroying the foundation of the army formation.
Elanza News gathered that the destruction of the structure, which has received wide condemnation in Southern Kaduna, might have nothing to do with the crisis in the area.
“It could have happened as a result of government complacency, land grapping and compensation,” it was gathered.
“Since the security agents in Zangon Kataf LGA who are supposed to put an eye in the area were not aware of the foundation laying ceremony, some mischief makers can easily go and destroyed it just to cause aspersions between the people of the area and the government,” another source said.
The destruction of the structure, according to Elanza’s investigation also confirmed the porous nature of security in the area which has been deliberately lacking for years.
