ON THE CASE OF KILLINGS IN ASSO,DALLE,AND TANDA IN JEMA’A LGA ON SUNDAY MARCH 19th AND MONDAY 20th MARCH 2017: PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY HON SHEHU GARBA SARKIN-NOMA,MEMBER,REPRESENTING JEMA’A/SANGA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

It would be recalled that there was a reported case  of killings on Monday,20th March,2017 in Dalle and Kariyo in Jema'a LGA involving Soldiers.

The incident followed the intervention of Policemen and Soldiers to quell a brewing crisis arising from the brutal murder of 3 Farmers in Asso and Tanda by persons alleged to be Herdsmen.

Unfortunate as this incident was, some persons are seeking to politicise what was purely a security issue by dragging the name of the undersigned into the sad event in order to score cheap political goals.

The undersigned has no control over the deployment of, or the operational conduct of Security Personnel, hence any attempt to link me with the incident is an attempt to malign my unassailable standing with a Constituency that mirrors our rich diversity.

The Architect of this campaign of calumny, who has been rejected by the people, should realize that the people of Jema'a and Sanga are now more enlightened and can discern between True Representatives and those who wasted over a decade of their representation with no known or visible monument to their credit.

The undersigned sympathises with the innocent Victims of this crisis and Families of the bereaved.
I am calling on everyone to employ the rule of law in settling disputes and avoid all forms of reprisal actions as such would only compound situations.

I also wish to call on the Security Agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to establish the identity of the casualties and the circumstances surrounding the operation and the burning of settlements.Such action will quickly resolve the accusations and counter- accusations going on at the moment.

Furthermore, the undersigned is using this medium once again to call on the Kaduna State Government to set aside all prejudices and convene an all-inclusive Stakeholders Platform to deliberate and come up with workable resolutions on how to address the increasing conflicts between Farmers and Herdsmen in our Communities.

The situation on the ground suggests that both Herdsmen and Farmers are desirous of an enduring peace which guarantees peaceful co-existence.

The State Government is urged to put an end to the current blame game by taking the bull by the horn by tackling this problem especially as we are now approaching the rainy season when Farmers will have to return to their farms.

Now is the time for the Kaduna State Government to act. It should not play the ostrich. It should confront this problem head-on.

Signed:

Shehu N.Garba Sarkin-noma
